GTA IV article

Production
  • the gangster tough guy previously observed from afar in gangster films and TV drams such as The Sopranos and The Departed. this could've given later GTA games inspiration
  • the style of the game has changed, bears very little relation to 3-dimensional
  • immersive playing environment also the developments in console technology
Distribution
  • originally for playstation, linked through out but 'ported' and converted to other platforms.
  • PS2 was the undisputed king of games consoles. which many people grew up with. therefor very large potential was in-built the audience for the PS3. so GTA woulve been closer to song than Microsoft.
  • released april 2008
Marketing
  • it was on bilboard posters EVERYWHERE on the cover of nearly all video game magazines and advertised on the back of gaming and non gaming magazines
  • acres of newspaper space
  • a whole page in the observer was dedicated to /gta and whether it was 'art'
Consumption
  • UNDER 18s - bought with fake ID over the internet, via high street stores or by getting a parent to buy it for you
  • 'must play' game - similar status to must see tv like prizon break or lost. where people talk about what happened recently.
  • male and female students xbox360 owners ps3 owners - all united over GTA IV and the experience it brings
